A few notes before the long weekend

Your trusty blog-panion (I’m going to make that a thing, watch me) is getting set to take an extra day off tomorrow for the long weekend.

Before I do, a couple of housekeeping items to take care of:

-After spending the day stuffing, licking and stamping envelopes yesterday, season ticket holders will start getting their renewal packages in the mail today. In the package is a sweet-looking 12-page booklet with all sorts of handy info about the upcoming season and a copy of the recruiting DVD we sent out to our recruits. It’s unlike any package our fans have ever received before, we hope you’re as happy with it as we are.

<end self-congratulatory musings>

-In case you missed it yesterday, two long-time fan favorites are back with the Winterhawks. Mike Williamson and Scooter Vrooman are co-chairing the Winterhawks Alumni Association. We have a lot of plans to re-integrate our alumni with the current program, on a scope the team hasn’t embarked on before.

The first Alumni Association event will be a golf tournament on August 10, and we have a couple of our NHLers coming back to take part. Look for more details on the golf tourney on winterhawks.com in the coming week.

Proceeds from the golf tournament will go to benefit WAHA.

-Speaking of WAHA, don’t forget you can register your kids for the summer hockey camps here.

-The Kelowna Rockets are representing the WHL well at the Memorial Cup. The Rockets took their first two games and qualified for the final before dropping their final round robin game to Windsor on Tuesday.

Windsor and Rimouski play in a tie-breaker game tonight, with the winner taking on Drummondville in tomorrow’s semi-final. The Rockets will then play the winner of that game Sunday at 1 p.m. Pacific time. All games can be seen live on the NHL Network.

Anyway, have a good long weekend. See you Tuesday.
