As we announced earlier today, the inaugural Portland Winterhawks Alumni Association golf tournament will be August 10 at Persimmons in Gresham.

The first 20 threesomes that register will be paired with a Winterhawks or Buckaroos celebrity, a list that currently includes Paul Gaustad, Brent Peterson, Mike Johnston, Travis Green, Ken Hodge, Scooter, Mike Williamson, Connie Madigan, and many others.

Let’s just hope we don’t see too many swings like this, but a few like this is probably too much to ask.

It’ll be a great day at a terrific bargain: $185, or $555 for a threesome, which includes lunch, 18 holes of golf, prizes, and a barbecue dinner with all the celebrities.

Best of all, proceeds will go towards WAHA, a program to get more kids involved in the game of hockey.

Speaking of which, there’s still time to register your child for WAHA’s summer hockey camps. Sign your child up today right here. We’ll have news a little later this week on some upcoming publicity surrounding the camps.

A few other things happening these days with the Hawks:

-Season ticket holders should have their renewal packages by now, or very soon if they haven’t yet arrived. You’ll also be hearing from one of our customer service representatives very soon to go over the details of your account and what to expect for next season.

-Later this week we’ll be announcing an addition to our coaching staff, someone who’s worked with a number of current NHL players and will be a great asset to the team.

-After recently announcing the formation of the alumni association, which will bring our legends back into the fold, we’ll soon be announcing more additions to the Winterhawks family, this time in the form of some local heavy hitters who have come on board with the team.

-Elsewhere, congratulations to the Kelowna Rockets on making it to the Memorial Cup final. Despite a tough loss to Windsor, they represented the WHL well.

“Heavy Hitters”? Please dear God, don’t get in bed with the Portland Beavers and Merritt Paulson.

Actually, I hadn’t meant heavy hitter as a pun. It’s not Paulson, but nice thinking.
