I’m back from vacation, in which I more or less accomplished everything I wanted to do:

Watch Felix Hernandez pitch. I was at the Mariners game yesterday, when Felix pitched a gem until Grady Little, er, Don Wakamatsu, left him in too long and he gave up a two-run bomb to Mark Reynolds that left them down 2-1. Luckily, the M’s earned the win on a lucky break in the bottom of the 9th. Sadly, I was not there to witness the dramatic finish as my restless two year-old son decided to throw a goldfish cracker at the head of the guy sitting two rows ahead of us.  When he decides it’s time to go, he does so with gusto.

Win a bocce tournament. Not so good on that one. I came third. Out of four. On the plus side, I at least beat my friend who’s currently on crutches, so that was a nice feather in my cap. In case you’re wondering, he injured himself skateboarding. He’s 32. With two kids.

Grow a Pau Gasol-caliber beard. I do have a beard, but it’s more Zach Braff than Pau Gasol. And anytime I have to compare myself to Zach Braff, it’s a wake-up call.

At any rate, the blog is back, and Winterhawks fans should be on the lookout tomorrow for an announcement about the team’s preseason schedule.

In other news, Colorado is quickly becoming ground zero for former Winterhawks. Cody McLeod has re-signed with the Avalanche for another three years after posting 15 goals and 162 penalty minutes in his first full NHL season.

And as Andy mentioned on his blog, this news came days after the Avalanche announced the hirings of former Winterhawks Steve Konowalchuk and Adam Deadmarsh as assistant coaches.

Speaking of Andy’s blog, he’s got a terrific interview on his site right now with GM and Head Coach Mike Johnston.
