Hawks Reading Material

So I know there’s some sort of football game on tonight (although I’ll be watching a rerun of The Office), but if you’re looking for something to distract you when Boise State takes a three-touchdown lead on Oregon tonight, here’s some Winterhawks reading material.

Up first is an article from today’s issue of the Portland Tribune on defenseman Brett Ponich, who put on about 20 pounds in the offseason and is being looked upon to take an increased leadership role this season. Of course, I put on 20 pounds this summer too, but you don’t see me bragging about it.

At any rate, speaking of Ponich, he’s one of six Hawks heading off to NHL training camps as he’s suiting up for the Blues in Traverse City. You can check out the press release, and some quotes from the players in the accompanying article. The feature story was written by Lauren Pullen, who started with us this week as an intern in the media relations department. She’ll be contributing regular articles to the site throughout the season.

Something else to keep an eye on will be next Wednesday, when all 60 CHL teams will be unveiling the new RBK Edge jerseys. We’ll have exclusive photos of the new uniforms and plenty of info on the new design.

Of course, amid all the off-ice news, there will actually be games this weekend. The Winterhawks leave for Everett first thing in the morning tomorrow for three games: 3 p.m. tomorrow against Spokane, 11:30 a.m. Saturday against Prince George and 7 p.m. Sunday against the Silvertips. Andy will be live-blogging tomorrow over at his blog, so make sure you tune in to check that out. If all goes well, you can expect lots more live-blogging throughout the season, especially at non-televised games (Yes, we have a tv deal nearly in place. Details forthcoming in the near future). If the tool works, we’ll also be doing regular live chats with players and coaches over at It should be a lot of fun.
